Teacher: How to use the Risk Estimator Tool
The Risk Estimator is a way to visualise the scale of risk by adjusting three things:
The probability of the risk - how likely is it to occur?
The risk frequency – how often are you exposed to the risk?
The consequence – what is the likely outcome of the risk?

A slider on all three categories can be moved left or right to alter the setting. This changes the total risk profile shown on the top slider.
All three sliders interact to form an estimate of the absolute risk based on the settings of probability, frequency and consequence.
Using the Risk Estimator on driving tasks like speeding, ignoring a red light, or drink-driving will help students process and identify the risk and its consequences.
We encourage you to use it where you see fit in the modules.
The Risk Estimator does not give absolute scientific risk measurements. It is a visual tool to help keep students engaged and start discussions.
This initiative is supported by funding from the Queensland Government's Community Road Safety Grants scheme.
